Parker, Texas Hog Hunt |
This hunt was
not a “trophy hunt” by any stretch of the imagination.
It was a depredation control conservation hunt. The size of the
hogs was not large – 205 lbs was the heaviest (actual weight
on scales). Most were in the 150-pound class.
All bullets performed extremely well including the little 180 gr.
45 caliber Jacketed Hydra-Con. It is, however, on the light side.
If the .45 caliber were being used, then the 200 gr. would be a
better choice.
The .50 caliber bullets were simply outstanding. The Parker Ballistic
Extreme accounted for 3 hogs – one 185 lbs and one 205 lb.
Boar. Both were shot in the shoulders and a 150-175 lb. Boar shot
in the lungs. The lung shot was a complete pass through. Maximum
distance traveled was 40 yards. The 185 lb. Boar went 15 yards and
the 205 lb. dropped in his tracks.
The regular Jacketed Hydra-Con’s all did extremely well. The
250 gr. had already proven itself and was not tested on this hunt.
The 275 gr. produced instant one shot kills and the 300 gr. shot
through all the hogs no matter what quartering angle. The 300 gr.
recovery pictured was a deliberate nose to tail shot in order to
recover the bullet.
A total of 13 hogs were taken in three days. The hunt was great
and the bullet performance was outstanding.
Good Hunting,
Bob Parker
